Promoting British Values

At Bellingham Primary School we aim to reinforce British Values regularly as part of our whole school ethos following the DfE guidance and the need  " to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual repsect and tolernace of those with different faiths and beliefs"
Democracy: All pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard. We foster an environment where children are safe to express their opinions and feel like they are listened to.

The Rule of Law: the importance of rules and laws are consistently reinforced throughout school as part of our everyday life. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules - to protect and govern, learning that there may be consequences if laws are not followed.

Individual Liberty: our puils are encouraged to make choices for themselves in a safe and supportive environment. It might be which extra curricular activities they want to do or where to go on a school visit. They are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their right of choice in a safe way through e-safety and PSHE sessions.

Mutual Respect: Our school promotes respect for others in all aspects of our daily school life. Discussions and assemblies help to support this.

Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs: We aim to enhance our pupils understanding of our culturally diverse society by providing opportunities to experience such diversity - visits to village churches, Hindu temple, celebrating Chinese New Year and inviting visitors into school. Assemblies looking at prejudices have been held and supported by learning in RE and PSHE.
